I have just been involved in a dance workshop at Dance East.called "nobodys baby" about the dance marathons in America in the depression in the 1930's and I have been inspired to evolve the dance marathon theme further.
A couple of years ago I worked on a project about invented unknown twentieth century artists and I made up an artist who worked in the war using brown paper and gouache, and other materials that may have been around at the time,- I wrote about it on the blog....
I did a series of sketches, this was one.
Also some time ago I made some paintings about couples dancing.
I would like to develop all this further to make some expressive figure paintings in oil on canvas exploring and reavealing the visceral and painful aspect that would have been exposed under the glitz and glitter of the dance marathons as the weeks and months passed.
extending the work from the model that I have been working on in recent months.
About ten years ago I made a triptych about women dancing. I hung it again at the exhibition in woodbridge eirlier this year. they are huge actualy...
I hope I will be able to go and sketch the dancers as the develop the piece. the movements of real people are so much better than anything I could invent.
anyway first thoughts...putting then down here helps them not to disappear into the ether.
